How to Make a Living Writing for Small Businesses
If youre a new freelance writer, Im sure youve heard the phrase, B2B writing or B2C writing. What is the B2B meaning? What is the B2C meaning? In the world of freelance writing, there are many niches you can choose from, but not all of them will be profitable. I just happened to fall into the B2B marketing space naturally. I never gave it much thought and never really looked at how I transitioned into this niche. Before I get into what steps I took to make a living writing for small business, lets look at what B2B and B2C content really is. What is the B2C Meaning for Writers? The B2c meaning stands for, business-to-consumer. When you write for a B2C client you are writing content to help their customers. Typically these clients have a product and they want you to integrate their product message in their blog posts or content marketing strategy. For example, Lowes is a hardware store and their blog, Creative Ideas, helps their customers use their products in their home by providing ideas and DIY instructions ââ¬â from other bloggers. The Meal Prep is a food delivery service for busy people. I wrote for their blog last year and focused on content to help their would-be customers live a healthier life. Typically writing for the B2C marketing space is funner to write for since you typically get to write list posts that are often shorter in length with topics that often interest you (since we are all consumers). Is B2C lucrative? Yes and no. Depending on the client, you may find that an average 500 word post can run anywhere from $25 up to $100 or more. Ive had a few B2C clients ââ¬â with one still active ââ¬â and its a treat for me to write for these clients. My current B2C client is on the higher end of the pay rate, but they arent in my ideal niche. Im fine with that since these posts are super easy to write, takes me an hour or less to whip up a 500 word post, and the client is a great client. What is the B2B Meaning for Writers? B2B stands for business-to-business. When you write for a B2B client you are writing content to help other entrepreneurs, marketers or small businesses. You might be writing about: The latest trends Systems and processes Tools of the trade Tips to help others in their business Typically, as a B2B writer, you write blog posts, white papers or case studies that will not only be read by other bloggers, but also marketers and small business owners. For example, my post on OptinMonster, speaks to the solopreneur or marketer. Some people think B2B marketing writing is highly technical, statistical and analytical. And, sure, some B2B content writing jobs are dry and more academic, but more and more online business know the power of engaging copy. For example, GoDaddy is a web hosting company and they have a blog called the Garage. But their posts arent strictly about web hosting or domain registration (boring!). They know the power of engagement and are tailoring their content to attract a broad audience of business owners, bloggers and freelancers. Is B2B writing profitable? You bet! This is my primary niche and I average around $600 a post or more depending on the requirements and length. Breaking Into the Small Business Writing Niche Are you interested in breaking into the small business writing niche? If you are, here are the steps to take. 1. Know Your Audience (And How to Write for Them) I mentioned this before, but the primary audience for the B2B space is small business owners, entrepreneurs, marketers and freelancers. These people are looking for actionable tips to help them improve their business. They dont want to read industry jargon or convoluted ideas. Around 50% of Americans read at an 8th grade level. I know, its shocking, but its generally true. And the B2B content space is no different. Writing in a more casual and engaging tone is preferred and helps make the content easier to consume. However, dont mistake this conversational tone as using slang terms or incomplete sentences. Its a good idea to avoid phrases like totally awesome or Im so sure.. But thats not to say a B2B clients wouldnt like that type of language. Look at Melyssa Griffins posts. Shes an entrepreneur and her content speaks to other entrepreneurs, yet she injects her youthful personality in her content and thats totally okay! ðŸâ¢â But, shes not a freelance writer and writing for other businesses. Shes building her own platform and can write however she likes. And thats where the distinction lies. You wouldnt write Guuuuuuurl in a client post. But, you might write, killer content instead. Of course, it all depends on the client and their brand. Kapeesh? 2. Your Writing Must be Fact-Based It goes without saying that most, if not all, of your clients want you to back up your claims. This is even more important in the B2B industry. I write mostly in the digital marketing niche and I have to make sure my writing links to relevant and popular content. This helps the client with ranking and builds trust with the search engines. Some tips for finding relevant links: Use the same reference links in a popular post similar to your topic. For example, if your client piece is on how to find trustworthy employees and you find a post on Monster.com, see what links they have on their site and use those in your post. Use recent sources from the last two years. Anything older and its probably outdated. Link to sources that are popular and that you know. For example, for digital marketing content I often link to Hubspot, Kissmetrics and sometimes SEJ. So, what does this look like? Heres a sample from a post I did on Blogging Wizard on using Pinterest to drive traffic to your site. There are 6 links in that bullet list! Clients like when you use relevant statistics and back it up. 3. Learn to Take Screenshots (And Optimize them Correctly) One important skill to have as a freelance writer in general is how to take screenshots. This helps show your points better in your post and helps break up the post making it more engaging and easier to read. I find that I use screenshots to visually show what Im writing about. It could be a product, a tool, a landing page or lead magnet. For example, in my Sendlane post on sales funnels, I took a screen shot of Haute Chocolates lead magnet. Another thing to do is to optimize your screenshot images. This shrinks the image size, but doesnt affect the quality of the image. I have one entire lesson and two enhanced video training videos in my course, Write Your Way to Your First $1k, that gives a break down on how to take screenshots, annotate them and optimize them appropriately. Having this skill in your back pocket will help you land better clients because it shows you know how to use online tools and understand how to write an awesome blog post. 4. Stay Up to Date on Industry News To make sure you are providing the best tips and resources for your client pieces, its always a good idea to read up on the latest industry news. This might mean following certain blogs or entrepreneurs. For me, I follow a lot of blogs and people, but have recently started following Melyssa Griffin and Mariah Coz. These lady bosses not only help me in my own product business but also with providing content marketing strategies to help me with my client posts. Once youve written a few B2B pieces, you will see which sites or entrepreneurs you gravitate towards. Before I started following those ladies, I was hooked on Derek Halpern of Social Triggers and Jon Morrow of Smart Blogger (I still am!). Can Anyone Write for Small Business? B2B writing isnt for everyone, but B2C writing can be. For business-to-business writing you need the knowledge and desire to write in this space. Certainly if you asked me almost two years ago to write a 1,000 word post on inbound marketing, I would probably pass. But now? Bring it on! I love writing so much in this niche that my freelance writing course is positioned to help other writers learn how to write for small businesses too. Now its your turn ââ¬â have you thought about writing for B2B clients? If not, whats holding you back?

The perfect machine building the Palomar telescope
The perfect machine building the Palomar telescope Introduction The designing, construction, and execution of the Palomar telescope took around quarter of a century. The telescope was a state-of-art device, which drove technology to the edge. There existed numerous internal strains in the project. The collaboration between science and industry hardly ever went effortlessly (Florence, 2011, pp. 8-15).Advertising We will write a custom book review sample on The perfect machine: building the Palomar telescope specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Ronald Florence, the author of ââ¬Å"The perfect machine: building the Palomar telescopeâ⬠performs an excellent job in bringing forth the drama involved in the project. The drama by Ronald Florence is however not of the kind of Indiana Jones, but of conflicts in personality, the distressing of the resolution to engineering difficulties, and the vigor of the attempt to generate an appropriate mirror blank. One could even note the concern at the period of the long extensions in the course of waiting for the cooling of the mirror coupled with during its erection at the appropriate shape. Even if this advance could not result to an intellectual account of the project, it is suitable for an excellent reading. The construction of the Hale Telescope is somewhat a lengthy account. The entire project was filled with difficulties in addition to the existence of some critical setbacks that could have terminated the entire project including the Hubble Space Telescope. Nevertheless, the Hubble did not turn out to be the only telescope to encounter such initial aches. This situation is as well relevant to the 200-inch (5 meter) Hale Telescope situated at the Palomar Mountain. Ronald Florence generates a perfect book concerning the construction of the 200-inch Palomar telescope that was indeed a perfect machine. Palomar Telescope According to Florence, many researches have looked into the construction of the Palomar telescopes with the inclusion of the efforts by David Woodbury. As suggested by Florence, David Woodbury and his publication are in fact a section of the account for he even assisted in obtaining a great form of the project. Even though there are some current researches on Palomar, ââ¬Å"The Perfect Machineâ⬠stands as the sole complete and detailed account of the Palomar story. With respect to works by George Ellery, the 5-meter telescope signifies the largest telescope internationally. George Ellery is a solar astrophysicist who had the expertise of obtaining huge sums from rich men.Advertising Looking for book review on history? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Additionally, Ellery was in a position to perceive the worth of large telescopes with regard to resolving the puzzles of stellar advancement and cosmology (Florence, 2011, pp. 16-20). In 1923, Ellery and his comrade engineer, Francis Pease, developed confidence that a mu ch larger telescope would be constructed on condition that they had the necessary monetary requirements. Certainly, they approximated the total cost to be $ 5 million. Ellery overwhelmed Wickliffe Rose, the manager of Rockefeller Foundation (RF), with the notion of the telescope and by the close of 1928, the finances for the building of the 5-meter telescope were provided. Ronald Florence opens his book with a synopsis of the ââ¬Å"Great Debateâ⬠by Shapley-Curtis. The ââ¬Å"Great Debateâ⬠denotes a crucial instance in the hullabaloo over if nebulae existed in the galaxy or if galaxies were on their own. Moreover, the author explains the position of cosmology, the significance of large telescopes to the ground, and the setting of Ellery, viz. the initiator of the 200-inch. Luckily, he uses much time in the discourse of the influence of the two main important occasions that had an impact on the application of the telescope: the vast misery and the Second World War (Floren ce, 2011, pp. 21-25). The 5-meter project offered jobs during the misery and permitted numerous companies to focus on manpower and the attempts into special study for the project than they could have at an instance when business was in an excellent state. On the other hand, the impact of the war resulted in the stopping of the building of the telescope by drawing of the labor force as well as resources. The most fascinating sections of the book are illustrations of the people engaged in the construction of the telescope.Advertising We will write a custom book review sample on The perfect machine: building the Palomar telescope specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The individuals that played a key role in the construction of the telescope include George Ellery who had a frenzied pace that resulted to his downfall (Florence, 2011, pp. 56-75). His endeavor, as a technical industrialist, coupled with his demanding study approach and the cour se of Mount Wilson Observatory, acted as the correspondent of burning the candle at its two ends and brought about his entire collapse in 1910. Following the downfall, Ellery could swap short periods of intense labor with instances of severe exhaustion. For George Ellery, the 200-inch telescope acted as his last project as well as the one, which could give him a great reputation. Ellery is best remembered for this telescope. Additionally, there existed other individuals in the army like Clyde McDowell. Clyde withdrew from the navy and abandoned an opportunity and reputation in a bid to administer the building of the telescope. His form of administration led to the effortless construction of the telescope. Moreover, McDowell acquired new friends with his perception that the construction of the telescope was the same as the construction of a massive battleship gun tower. McDowell employed retired military Colonel Brett to manage the building site on Palomar. On his part, Brett managed the site in the same way as an army operation, to the extent of serving a nasty meal each week to permit the employees long for others (Florence, 2011, pp. 89-112). Ronald Florence illustrates the scientists in addition to the engineers as considerably the most impressive characters in the drama. It is not hard to express sympathy for individuals like McCauley of Corning as well as his impressive attempts to come up with an appropriate piece of Pyrex for use as the telescope mirror. All things appeared to break down for McCauley, starting with a superior obtaining recognition for his efforts to a downpour that threatened to tear down the second Endeavour at a 200-inch (5 meter) mirror blank. Ronald Florence has as well accomplished a service through shedding light on an individual that has obtained very little recognition, Rein Kroon. Rein was a youthful engineer from the Netherlands who was working for the project initiated by Westinghouse, the constructers of the telescope mounti ng. Rein managed to resolve many difficult setbacks entailed in the telescope mounting (Florence, 2011, pp. 123-152).Advertising Looking for book review on history? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The aforementioned setbacks included the way to make use of the oil-film comportments for mounting, the interior plan for the north ââ¬Å"horseshoeâ⬠deportment, and plan for the declination deportments. The endeavors of these men as well as others described in the book led to the completion of the 200-inch Hale Telescope that started its operation in 1949. The Very Large Telescope During the early 1980s, there existed more than half of a dozen observatories of telescopes accessible to astronomers internationally, La Silla being among them. Arrangements were underway to build stronger and larger telescopes having primary mirrors. The Keck Foundation (KF) allowed the Californian Institute of Technology (CIT) and the University of California to construct twin 10-m telescopes and situated it on Mauna Kea. This aspect played a key role in the provision of initial light and in particular concerning ground-anchored spectroscopic similar to the Hubble Space Telescope (Florence, 2011, pp. 219-250). Switzerland and Italy had become part of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in 1981, thus allowing the building of the 3.5-m fresh expertise Telescope with initial developments in dynamic optics. These developments were vital for the next move; viz. the building of a Very Large Telescope (VLT) that received the approval in 1987 and it was constructed on Cerro Paranal in Chile. This 8.1-m telescope (Gemini) as well as an 8.3-m Subaru telescope came into being at around the same period. The Very Large Telescope was planned from initial stages as an incorporated structure containing 4 of the 8.2-m telescopes, comprising the likelihood of to merge the light telescopes for optical interferometers, thus paving the way for breathtaking spatial settlement. The majority of VLT devices were constructed in close partnership with establishments in nearby states. The whole lot of the initial device set was completed at around mid 2007 with the ordering of CRIRES. The Paranal stock comprised the screw adaptive optics network in addition to a fast-reaction method to respond to quick transient occurrences. Later on, the near infrared frequency was incorporated as generation-1.5 device. The Very Large Telescopes have added to all sections of astronomy encompassing the kind of dark substance and dark energy, the excessive physics of gamma radiation ruptures, as well as the configuration, organization, and development of galaxies and solar system. The productivity with respect to referenced research papers was almost 500 in 2007, thus making about 2200 since initiation with subsequent yearly augments. The total of observing applications for European Southern Observatory amenities has nearly tripled in the last decade. The User Portal has approximately 4000 certified clients and the archive holds 74 Terabytes of statistics and improved statistical products (Florence, 2011, pp. 298-325). Winning strategy The Very Large Telescopes initiated businesses for Keck t elescopes in about 5 years. Nevertheless, the notion of constructing a completely integrated structure having 4 of the 8.2-m telescopes with time and offering a dozen foci for a cautiously planned backup of devices accompanied by 4 of the 1.8-m Auxiliary Telescope proved to be the proper one for the interferometer. The inclusion of a lasting and sufficiently financed device and expertise were constructed in association with establishments in the neighboring states, with similar participation in labor remunerated by assured keeping of time, and has developed the most improved ground-anchored optical observatory in the universe. The progression model prohibits guest as well as service style and offers the best observing effectiveness in the world on a position where almost 90 per cent of the nights are unclouded (Florence, 2011, pp. 382-425). In the society today, the achievements of the Palomar telescope have facilitated technological inspirations, for instance, the European Southern Observatory personnel were motivated to construct, drive, and back the best probable observatory. In this regard, the Very Large Telescope is possibly the natural replacement of the Perfect Machine that was situated at Mount Palomar. Strength and weakness of the book Ronald Florence does not just offer a vibrant story of the design and building of Hale telescope, but he also attracts the reader to share his enthrallment for a splendid project in addition to a remarkable technical machine. The book is beyond a well written piece and turns out to be fascinating. Nevertheless, there exist some weaknesses in the book. At some point, the author wrongly offers praise to the designers of the Palomar telescope for novelty that had been tested long before, like the standard of the support of the principal mirror. The description of the unmoved ending of the principal mirror seems entirely questionable with regard to the metrology of the moment, being of excessively low resolution to permit any significant confirmation of local redesigning as detailed by the author. Additionally, the post-1950 era could as well have merited a rather wider and fairer description. Moreover, the introduction of completely new and extensive perceptions, like active optics, under the custody of European designers, and dealers is totally disregarded. Overall, the vision and the effort concerning the construction of the Palomar telescope spring from each page; it is an almost flawless book regarding an almost perfect machine. Conclusion By around 1980s, there hailed observatories of telescopes accessible to astronomers internationally that were perhaps the natural substitution of the Perfect Machine that was positioned at Mount Palomar. Ronald Florence used reasonable time in the study of the story as portrayed by the endnotes that demonstrate his usage of a lot of time in search of primary data from the archives. Nevertheless, Florence is yet to seize a number of the noteworthy historical co ncerns concerning the 200-inch telescope and in this regard, intellectual treatment is anticipated of the Palomar Observatory by a historiographer of science and technology. An excellent intellectual historiographer was perhaps not the intention of Ronald Florence (this is evident in the lack of preface as well as a bibliography; in its place there are works stated at the endnotes). Luckily, an excellently studied and perfectly written story is developed in the book. Reference Florence, R. (2011). The Perfect Machine: Building the Palomar Telescope. The effects of the US 1965 Immigration Act Essay
The effects of the US 1965 Immigration Act - Essay Example According to the writings of Daniel in 2008, the effects that were intended differ completely from the actual ones. Around 22.8 million migrants came to America after the Immigration Act, which made the country the second largest in terms of the percentage of naturalized citizens. However according to Canellos (2008) the intended positive effects of the act completely matched the actual effects and led to the historical development of the country. The country, after the enactment of the act, experienced a change in the immigration pattern from a majority of European immigrants to an increase in Asian, African and Latin Americans. Another effect presented by the CIS report (though not supported by the other authors) was the increase in the dropout rates in the society with the increasing population of the immigrants. Though opinions about the actual effect of the act on the historical development and the changing nature of the society differ among the authors, the effects of the act o n the economy and the employment level of the country need to be disclosed. Primary resource essay Introduction: The Immigration Act of 1965 was passed by the Congress government of the country sponsored by Ted Kennedy, the senator of United States. With the new Immigration Act, the national origin formula that existed from the days of the previous Immigration Act of the year 1924 was abolished. ... The Immigration Act, when it was published, went unnoticed by the common people of the country as was the remaining eleven thousand bills published by the government of the country. The common people of the country were worried about the publication of the laws until the effect of those fell on the entire nation, ultimately affecting the lives of these common people. The same happened with the Immigration Act when it was first published by the Congress Ministry. However, with the proper enforcement of the act and its spread among the general people their lives started being affected gradually as the restriction on the immigration from the foreign land was considerably withdrawn with an annual limit being maintained by the law. The law ensured that not more twenty thousand of the people of foreign countries could immigrate to United States in a span of one year irrespective of the number of people of the same country already residing in the United States of America. The visas to the i mmigrants from the countries of the western hemisphere were produced on the first come first served basis. As the immigration policy of the country became almost the same for citizens of any country irrespective of their location, their economic and social conditions, the nature of immigration to the country changed. Previously immigrants, mainly from the European nations, visited America. However, with the change in the policy there occurred a shift from the European migrants to migrants from the continent of Asia and also from the countries of Central America and that of South America. The immediate effect of the Immigration Act of 1965 was that the number of immigrants in the country doubled itself within the span of five years, the time that the law

Advocacy letter Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Advocacy letter - Essay Example If there was only a small amount of trash, they picked it up and put it into a plastic bag. They then took this same plastic bag out of the restroom, and took an elevator to go to another floor. One student was eating a muffin in the elevator, and he then pushed a button that a janitor had touched with dirty gloves. Also janitors went to from one classroom to another to empty the trashcans in each room. They touched all of the classroom door knobs with dirty gloves. In the hospital, they did the same thing. They went from patientââ¬â¢s room to another to empty trash cans and hampers. If there was only a small quantity of trash or dirty linen, they transferred this into one bag to save trash bags. Janitors never changed their gloves both in school and in the hospital, and also they touched the dirty area first and then the clean area with the same gloves. Janitors usually have a low educational background. They need to be educated in the concept of germs and how germs are spread. They need to know what the clean areas and the dirty areas are, so that they can start working in the clean area first before touching the dirty ones. The best way to solve this problem is to provide a compulsory training program for all janitors which deals with issues like the way germs are passed on, and the dangerous implications of using the same gloves over and over again. I recommend that you consider implementing this suggestion immediately, for the sake of all our patients, visitors and

Introduction Of Swot Analysis Marketing Essay
Introduction Of Swot Analysis Marketing Essay SWOT analysis is approach for auditing a business organization and its environment where it operates. Generally SWOT analysis is the initial stage of planning that helps policy makers and marketers to identify and focus on key issues. The acronym for SWOT is strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Strengths and weaknesses are internal SWOT factors (MarketingTeacher.Com, 2013). Opportunities and threats are external SWOT factors. A strength is considered as positive internal factor. A weakness is considered as a negative internal factor. Similarly, an opportunity is considered as a positive external factor and finally a threat is known as a negative external factor (Ireland, Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008). Apart from understanding the business environment, another function of SWOT analysis is to turn companys weaknesses into strengths and threats into opportunities. Moreover it allows management to integrate internal strengths with external opportunities. Theoretically SWOT analys is is that simple. It is expected from SWOT analysis that the outcome should create value for customers and help to get competitive advantage (MarketingTeacher.Com, 2013). C:UsersKhayyamDesktopSWOT_MAS_NaifSWOT intro.jpg Figure: SWOT analysis framework, Data Source: (MarketingTeacher.Com, 2013) 3.1 Strengths: Strengths refer to those characteristics of a particular business which are unique and give the company advantage over competitors (Ireland, Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008). For example, a company might have specialist marketing expertise or the company produces new and innovation product and services e.g. Apple I phone, the company might be strategically located, the company may produce best quality and top value for money products or services e.g. Rolls Royce cars, or any other aspect of business which is unique and hard to imitate for competitors would be considered as an strength of the company. If the company has special capabilities, powerful human resource e.g. Google employees, Unique Selling Point e.g. Google Nexus 7- best hardware releases on a tablet PC, powerful financial position e.g. Wal-Mart financial capabilities, economy of scale and global reach e.g. McDonalds and KFC etc. above mentioned qualities can be termed as strengths of a company. Each of these strengths creates pri ce inelasticity and generate loyal customer base (MarketingTeacher.Com, 2013) (Ireland, Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008). 3.2 Weaknesses: Weaknesses refer to those characteristics that creates completive disadvantage situation for the business (Ireland, Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008). For example a company may produce good quality products but due to lack of marketing expertise the company may suffer e.g. in February 2011, HOME DEPOT had to close operation in China (Bhasin, 2012), the company may offer undifferentiated products or services e.g. PC hardware market, the company may be located in inappropriate location, the company may produce poor quality goods or services e.g. Chinese brand-less electronics companies which produces inferior goods, damaged reputation e.g. Dominos you tube scandal 2009 (Clifford, 2009). These negative internal factors can be termed as weaknesses of a company. These factors often play a negative role in companys performance and achievements. A company should continuously try to convert its weaknesses to strengths. Sometimes big successful businesses suffer due to inappropriate market strategies a nd damaged reputations (MarketingTeacher.Com, 2013) (Ireland, Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008). 3.3 Opportunities: Opportunities are positive external factors which a company can capitalize to gain competitive advantages (Ireland, Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008). For example a company can explore a developing market such as internet e.g. UK retailer predicted that online shopping would be a popular choice in near future so they respond to this change of need (CIPS 2010). Mergers, joint ventures or strategic alliances help a company to generate bigger financial resources and allow the companies to explore more markets e.g. the merger of GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK), the company can find out new market segments that offer greater profits e.g. McDonalds targeted children to market its product which was unique marketing strategy at that time. The company can explore a new international market for further expansion. These external factors are known as opportunities which allow a company to integrate its internal strengths with external opportunities for greater profitability (MarketingTeacher.Com, 2013) (Ireland , Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008). 3.4 Threats: Threats are considered those external elements which may generate trouble for the business. A company should apply its strengths or try to build new strengths to minimize the risks of external threats. For example a new competitor in the existing market e.g. entrant of Google in electronics gadget manufacturing market possesses threats for existing market leaders like Samsung, Apple or HTC. Price war is a common practice in extreme competitive businesses where switching cost is very low e.g. fast food industry. When a competitor launches new and innovative products that possesses threats for others e.g. innovation of Windows by Microsoft. Additionally competitors access to superior supply channels, financial distress situation new tax and legislative changes are considered as threats (MarketingTeacher.Com, 2013) (Ireland, Hoskisson, Hitt, 2008).
